This new law allows the term ‘emotional disability’ as an acceptable alternative to the existing ‘emotional disturbance’ label in California’s Education Code and regulations. CASP believes that this change in terminology will help to reduce the stigma associated with mental health challenges which can be a major barrier to individuals seeking help and support. A big thank you to the legislature, Assembly Member Addis, Governor Newsom, and the CASP Legislative Committee for their unwavering support and coordination in getting this bill passed.
