About Me

Hi,

I am a Mom and a Granny. Currently 2 of my grand kids are staying with me. Their Mom has a cognitive impairment and their Dad is my son and he has Aspergers and ADHD. My grand son turned 9 in June and is entering fourth grade. This year I will be doing his IEPs. I have a basic understanding and at one time I was a Parent trainer Addvocate in Michigan... but it's been awhile! I am not up to date with changes in the law. I consulted with a couple IEPs for my gs but then my son and his narcissistic gf would stop talking to me. The school my gs goes to is not willing to provide what my gs needs. Starting with an appropriate comprehensive functional behavioral assessment, refusing to actually consider parents/caregivers input and requests and he can't read! But we are told he can. I recently began to wonder if he might have a hearing deficit. My son did(not the dad) and we were totally unaware until he was nearly 13 when we learned they his hearing was like laying down in a tub of water! That son had been on an iep for 5years. I will be asking for new evaluations and am hear to get pointers bc I know this is going to be a struggle. As long as I understand any changes since I last participated in the iep process,I have no problem seeking appropriate aids and services.

The school refused to do a proper functional behavioral plan. Punishment t seems to be where they stand. Even the director of special education ignores family input. I believe he needs tested in all areas of academics as well as a neuro psych eval. He has no social skills and none has been offered. He was born at 34weeks and has had a rough life thus far including  a recent fire where all was lost and not insured. A fire under investigation for Arson possibly set by the gf to cause harm to his father. His sister is 10 doing better but I believe she might benefit from services as well as she was molested by moms bf when she was 3 and a half and since has lived in an abusive environment being physically and mentally abused by the step mother figure.. Dyslexia runs in both sides of the family but so does exceptional intelligence. My oldest sons daughter, my eldest grand daughter just graduated Salutatorian of her class. My niece is also gifted.

I am a retired nurse and have a closed head injury which sometimes impacts my short term memory or ability to verbally express myself. I am a cancer survivor.(Thyroid cancer) which is hormonal and significantly impacts anxiety! The kids are arguing now and I can't think!! Uggh

Looking for pointers... thanks in advance
