About Me
My name is Crystal. My family lives in central Georgia. I'm a wife and a mom of three. Two girls (21)(17) and one boy (4). My journey started the summer of 2019 with my son who was 16 months old. At the time, I was an employee of a state funded resource center for special education teachers and parents with disabled children, I knew the signs and I knew my son was autistic. It took almost 2 years to get a formal diagnosis which I was extremely happy to get. I could write a book on the ups and downs over last 3 years.
As of October 2022, my autistic son is enrolled in our local public school's prekindergarten program where he is fully served in an inclusion classroom. He has had an IEP for two years now. His current IEP allows him to go into the special education classroom as needed. For the most part, he is in the regular classroom. This is HUGE considering where he started. Yes, I had to put my foot down about it too. The IEP meeting on September 2022 was a doozy. This was his first IEP with academic goals and objectives. Previously, he was on a speech only. I will say that our school system graciously allows his RBT to come into the classroom for four hours per day. Most school systems do not allow this in our area.
I have learned so much from this group and look forward to more.
