During IEP meeting

Jessica1

Question

Hi there,

Hope you are doing well.

Just last week, my child's school and I had an IEP meeting. The assessment report had 5 extra page to it then what was shared with me, The school made all the decisions on behalf of me and didn't share those IEP plans and documents with me, my agenda was shared towards the end of the meeting and they'd say because we want to explain everything to ask questions when they are done. Me & my advocate has to cut them off at times to few ask questions otherwise, they wouldn't let us. Otherwise, 2hours past and they were making the decisions and sharing everything as per thier agenda which was not shared before beforehand. We had 3 meetings before and had to fight to get some accomodations for child.  Do you feel  they do right thing? What should I do? I feel so hurt and upset with them. Thank you in advance for helping.

Lisa has some articles on meaningful parent participation https://adayinourshoes.com/parent-participation-in-the-iep-process/  and the importance of writing the after the IEP meeting letter to the meeting attendees (https://adayinourshoes.com/after-iep-meeting/) documenting what was said/discussed in the meeting. If you still have questions/concerns, it's your right to ask for another IEP meeting. If you disagree with the district's decisions, you can consider your procedural safeguard options. (CA has a summary available at https://www.cde.ca.gov/sp/se/qa/pssummary.asp).
